Welsh Conservatives have accused Plaid Cymru of trying to duck blame for growing economic problems in Wales.

Despite sharing power with Labour in the Assembly, as well as holding the economic brief in the Assembly Government, Plaid leader has tried to blame Labour at Westminster for all the problems in Wales.

Welsh Conservatives said Plaid's leader Ieuan Wyn Jones could not escape his own responsibility for the economic mess.

Shadow Minister for the Economy David Melding AM said: "Ieuan Wyn Jones is clearly trying to put some distance between his party and Labour. But the fact remains that Plaid now finds itself handcuffed to the corpse of the Labour Party in government here and in partnership with the Labour government at Westminster."

And he added, "Ieuan Wyn Jones cannot escape the fact that he is ultimately responsible for setting the direction of economic policy in Wales. Day after day, week after week jobs are being lost on his watch, providing yet more proof that the Labour-Plaid Assembly Government's economic summits and policies have had little impact in supporting Welsh businesses and workers."
